Net worth calculator
Your net worth is everything you own minus everything you owe. List both sides once and you have the single number that shows whether you are moving forward.
How to read the result
Net worth is assets minus liabilities. A negative number is common early on, especially with a student or car loan; what matters is the direction from month to month.
Debt-to-asset ratio is liabilities divided by assets. Below 0.5 you own at least twice what you owe; above 1 you owe more than you own, and paying down the most expensive debt (see the debt payoff calculator) usually moves the number fastest.
Assets in more than one country
If you hold savings at home and abroad, convert each to one currency at today’s rate before adding them up, and note the rate you used. Exchange-rate moves change your net worth even when you do nothing, so compare months in the same currency. How to budget in two currencies covers this in more detail.
